Bakehouse

The brainchild of former Four Seasons executive pastry chef Grégoire Michaud, Bakehouse boasts an Instagram-worthy brick wall storefront and an array of freshly baked goodies. From danishes and tarts to quiches and cookies, you can expect everything baked and in between here. Make sure to try the bakery’s famous croissants and sourdough loaves.

Dang Wen Li

Dang Wen Li took Hong Kong by storm when it arrived in the city. Founded by the creator of the cronut Dominique Ansel, the bakery is nothing short of sweet surprises with its selection of iconic Hong Kong street food and tea house favourites in dessert form. A must-visit if you’re looking for baked goods that are highly unique and photogenic.

Gontran Cherrier

French pastry chef, TV show host, cookbook author and businessman Gontran Cherrier recently set up shop in Hong Kong. Located in the newly renovated K11 MUSEA, the boulangerie drew long queues when it first opened its doors. From classics like croissants and pastry puff to more adventurous creations like curry baguettes, Gontran Cherrier has everything carbilicious you could possibly wish for.

Le Pain Quotidien

International chain bakery-restaurant Le Pain Quotidien arrived in Hong Kong several years ago to great reception. Since then, multiple outlets have popped up over the city, providing Hong Kongers with the best baked goods they could ask for. If you’re after simple, elegant boulangerie fare made with organic ingredients, Le Pain Quotidien is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We recommend its Wan Chai location, which has plenty of alfresco seating so you can enjoy your croissant just like they do it in Paris!

Levain Bakery

If you’ve been in Hong Kong for some time, chances are you’ve heard of Levain Bakery, the city’s first artisan bakery with a focus on sourdough. Founded by passionate baker and pastry chef KC Li, you’ll often find Levain Bakery’s goods at various pop-up markets around Hong Kong. Li also hosts baking courses for those who are interested in the art of sourdough-making. Keep an eye out on the bakery’s website and Facebook page for upcoming sessions!

Maison Eric Kayser

Originating from France with locations in 26 countries, Maison Eric Kayser offers French favourites such as baguettes, eclairs, financiers and fruit tarts, as well as classic baked items like sourdough and ciabatta. Passion by Gérard Dubois needs no introduction with seven locations across Hong Kong and Macau. Founded by Swiss-born pastry chef, the bakery offers an authentic French café experience and serves up breads, pastries, sandwiches, salads and drinks. Star products include its crusty sourdough bread and baguette, made exclusively with imported French flour and baked in-house in a traditional stone oven.

Plumcot

Opened in 2017, Plumcot’s founders and husband-and-wife Camille Moenne-Loccoz and Dominique Yau have a combined portfolio of experience at Pierre Hermé, The Peninsula and various Michelin-starred establishments in Paris. The patisserie specialises in French pastries, artisanal ice cream and cakes, all made in its humble kitchen in Tai Hang. Try its blue cheese ice cream if you’re feeling adventurous!

Proof

Tucked away in Happy Valley, we promise a visit to Proof is worth the journey. The local bakery has no set menu, instead cranking out a different selection of goodies daily. Expect both classic and experimental baked items such as sourdough bread, sundried tomato bagels and lemon crumb muffins, all made using only unbleached flour and no artificial ingredients or preservatives.
