It takes a certain audacity to charge HK$1,880 for a haircut. But then, Rossano Ferretti has never played by the rules. A third-generation hairdresser from a modest Italian village, Ferretti has quietly upended the salon industry with a deceptively simple idea: hair should move the way it was meant to. His celebrated Metodo, or Invisible Cut, forgoes formulaic angles in favour of intuition, artistry and an almost meditative attention to natural texture. The result? Hair that falls, flows and flatters.
Now, Ferretti’s revolutionary approach has found a home at the Rossano Ferretti HairSpa, tucked within the contemplative confines of Asaya, the Rosewood Hong Kong’s wellness sanctuary. With its serene treatment rooms and discreet glamour, the salon feels less like a place to get your roots done and more like a retreat for the hair and soul.
We sat down with Ferretti—and his Hong Kong salon manager Luca—for a conversation that wandered from his childhood in Parma, Italy to the power of scalp care, the politics of grey hair, and why you’ll never see him have a bad hair day.

What exactly is the Rossano Ferretti Metodo?
It’s a philosophy as much as a technique. The Invisible Cut is done primarily on dry hair, because only then can I truly see how the hair behaves—its rhythm, its texture, its personality. I don’t impose shapes. I enhance what’s already there. Every cut is different, because every person is different.
Where did this philosophy come from?
From frustration. I saw too many people walking around with beautiful faces but haircuts that didn’t suit them. Everything looked stiff, over-engineered. I wanted to create a method that respected the individual. With my sister Lorenza—who is still our Artistic Director—we began to think of hair as fabric, something to be sculpted with feeling, not rules. The inspiration came from Italian couture: craftsmanship, elegance, and above all, harmony.

Do you believe in the idea of a “bad” haircut?
No. I believe in unsuitable haircuts. A cut that flatters someone else may not flatter you. Good hair design should match your texture, your features, your lifestyle. When that happens, the haircut becomes almost invisible—but the person shines.
What does healthy hair actually mean?
It means elasticity, shine, softness—and a balanced scalp. But health is also emotional. Stress, poor sleep, and diet can all manifest in the hair. You can’t separate beauty from wellbeing. This is why our salons are not just places of grooming; they’re places of restoration.
Let’s talk about greys. A lot of people are still hesitant to embrace them.
Grey hair can be extraordinarily beautiful. What we offer isn’t concealment—it’s enhancement. Ammonia-free colours, delicate blends, soft transitions. The idea isn’t to fight the grey but to work with it, to elevate it. That, to me, is the more modern and sustainable choice.

Does your approach shift depending on culture? How do you adapt in Asia?
Of course. Every culture has a different relationship with hair. In Asia, hair is tied to identity, elegance, and discipline. Our clients here are incredibly knowledgeable—especially about scalp health. In Hong Kong and Singapore, there’s a clear demand for frizz-free, polished hair—but it must still move, still feel like them. We adapt without diluting our vision.
Humidity is a constant enemy in Asia—especially for Western hair. Any advice?
The cut must work with the hair’s natural behaviour, not against it. That’s our strength. And hydration is essential—serums, oils, leave-in conditioners—but used sparingly. Our goal is balance, not control.
Why Rosewood Hong Kong? Why Asaya?
We look for partners who understand that luxury isn’t about excess—it’s about refinement, personalisation, care. Rosewood, and especially Asaya, embodies that. They create sanctuaries. Our HairSpa fits perfectly within that ecosystem. It’s not about beauty as performance. It’s beauty as wellbeing.

What’s next for the Rossano Ferretti brand?
We’re expanding—with new HairSpas globally—but not for growth’s sake. We want to keep evolving. We’re developing new treatments that fuse wellness and beauty, and we’re investing in education. I want to train the next generation to cut hair with emotion, not ego.
And your own grooming routine?
Let’s just say it’s low maintenance for obvious reasons—no brushing, no styling, no drama. But I do take care of my scalp. A little fragrance. Good moisturiser. And I never underestimate the value of a great night’s sleep.
