Spring is a good time to revisit afternoon tea in Hong Kong. New menus tend to lean lighter, with citrus, florals and more seasonal detail, while a handful of hotels and restaurants are quietly rethinking the format altogether. From classic, white-tablecloth rituals to more contemporary, table-led spreads, these are the afternoon teas worth knowing this season.
JIJA by Vicky Lau
One of last year’s most anticipated restaurant openings, JIJA by Vicky Lau brings a quietly distinctive, travel-led perspective to afternoon tea in Tsim Sha Tsui. Served in The Living Room at Kimpton, “JIJA in The Living Room” balances savoury and sweet with Yunnan mushroom sando and braised lamb with rose, alongside desserts that lean into tea and fruit, from green tea and yuzu tarts to oolong-infused chocolate cake. Even the scones take a different turn, paired with salted egg and Yunnan rose jam. The tea selection follows suit, with rare Yunnan varieties and floral infusions.

The Peninsula Hong Kong
Few places define afternoon tea in Hong Kong quite like The Lobby at The Peninsula Hong Kong. Set beneath soaring ceilings and framed by elegant colonnades, it remains one of the city’s most iconic afternoon tea experiences, accompanied by live classical music. The format is reassuringly classic, with finger sandwiches, smoked salmon, coronation chicken and cucumber, followed by refined pastries such as jasmine tea mousse with clementine and dark chocolate with toffee. Warm raisin scones with clotted cream and jam complete the ritual.

The Butterfly Room at Rosewood Hong Kong
At Rosewood Hong Kong, The Butterfly Room continues to set the benchmark for luxury afternoon tea. Named World’s Best Afternoon Tea by LaListe, the latest menu by Executive Pastry Chef Jonathan Soukdeo centres on a Hokkaido black sesame flan, introducing a deeper, more savoury note to the experience. Savouries range from potted crab and truffle egg to Peking duck with caviar, while desserts move between fruit-led and chocolate-rich compositions. A signature chocolate trolley and Mariage Frères teas complete one of the most refined afternoon tea experiences in Hong Kong.

Tiffin at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
At Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, Tiffin offers a more contemporary take on afternoon tea in Wan Chai. Developed in collaboration with Saicho, this seasonal experience replaces champagne with sparkling tea pairings that run through the menu. Expect elevated savouries such as lobster and foie gras, alongside a generous pastry selection that balances fruit, chocolate and lighter textures. It is a modern, less traditional afternoon tea in Hong Kong, with a focus on balance and flavour.

Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong
Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong takes a contemporary approach to afternoon tea at Gallery, where the traditional tiered stand is set aside in favour of a more generous, table-led spread. Curated by Executive Chef Maxime Luvara and Executive Pastry Chef Ringo Chan, the experience begins with a bright sparkling green tea with yuzu and lemon zest, before moving through a series of thoughtfully composed dishes, from scallop and shrimp dashi custard to foie gras confit with rhubarb, and a neatly layered fraiser with a touch of umeshu. A classic Napoleon cake brings a more familiar finish.

Upper House Hong Kong
At The Upper House in Admiralty, Salisterra introduces a more spirit-led afternoon tea in Hong Kong, created in collaboration with The Macallan and JING. Inspired by The Macallan’s Harmony Collection, the menu leans into Scottish influences, with dishes such as cured salmon and venison haché, before a dark chocolate whisky mille-feuille provides a richer finish. It is a more grown-up interpretation of afternoon tea, with a subtle interplay between tea and whisky.
