Art Month always brings an exciting wave of art exhibitions across Hong Kong, and this spring a collaboration at EAST Hong Kong is adding a thoughtful community dimension to the city’s creative calendar.
From March 23 to April 30, the hotel’s lobby will transform into a gallery space for r é n @ EAST | Art & Community, a month-long Art Month exhibition at EAST Hong Kong bringing together five emerging artists from Hong Kong and London. The project is presented in partnership with local social enterprise r é n, which supports disadvantaged youth through employment opportunities and community programmes.
The exhibition showcases works by Korean multimedia artist Olivia Jeeyun Joung, Swiss-Japanese painter Marcelle Rosfelder-Leu, Hong Kong multidisciplinary artist Ho Long Pang (Olkamll), alongside local artists Joyce Chiang and DD Yung. Working across painting, installation and mixed media, the artists explore themes of connection, resilience and identity through their individual practices.
Visitors can drop in and explore the exhibition free of charge throughout the month in the hotel lobby at EAST Hong Kong in Taikoo Shing, making it an easy stop while exploring the city’s Art Month events.
The exhibition opens on March 23 with a panel discussion at Sugar rooftop bar exploring how Hong Kong’s creative industries can become more accessible to young talent. Spaces are limited and advance registration is recommended via the r é n website.
Throughout the exhibition, guests can also discover a small pop-up at Domain café featuring limited-edition merchandise, enjoy a special Art Month cocktail at Sugar rooftop bar, and take part in creative workshops where participants decorate upcycled egg cartons as part of r é n’s “be a good egg” initiative.
For those exploring Hong Kong during Art Month, it’s a chance to experience contemporary art in a relaxed setting while supporting a project that connects creativity with community.
