The peak Tram sixth generation

The Peak Tram reopens this Saturday after significant renovation works that took over a year to complete and cost HK$799 million. The sixth generation Peak Tram returns with a refreshed look, enhanced facilities and greater passenger capacity.

The brand new Swiss-manufactured tramcars are painted a bespoke “Peak Tram Green”, a nod to the tram’s heritage and third and fourth-generation tramcars. The increased capacity allows for 210 passengers, while enhanced safety features, more expansive windows, ceiling sky lighting, and wheelchair and baby-safe spaces provide a more comfortable ride.

On the track, control signalling systems, ropes and track rails have been replaced, and the Central terminus has been extended to provide covered, temperature-controlled queueing and waiting areas for up to 1,300 people.

The renovation aims to reduce passenger waiting times by over 70%, but this comes at a cost, with standard ticket prices increasing to $88 for an adult return.

During the opening period, Hong Kong residents can enjoy promotional rates, such as the “Thank You HK Pass”, which offers adult returns for $66 and child returns for $33 before October 30.  For more ticketing and promotional information visit ticketing.thepeak.com.hk
