Hoss Vetry has built his career at some of the world’s most prestigious hotels. Starting in the hospitality industry in 1988, he has gone on to work with leading hotel brands from The Portman Hotel to The Ritz-Carlton.
His latest role as Vice President and Managing Director of Rosewood Hong Kong brought him to the city in August last year.
“I joined Rosewood Hong Kong during the most challenging year of our lifetime,” he tells Hong Kong Living. “But clearly, it was the highlight of the year for my family and myself.”

While relocating to a new city in the middle of a pandemic presented its challenges, Vetry chose to focus on the positives.
“For many, Hong Kong is among a handful of cities people wish to live in. Considering the pandemic, Hong Kong is still vibrant and very much alive,” he says.
“It is very similar to San Francisco, the city where I grew up. You can easily make friends, with so many options for dining and socialising.”
Moving to Hong Kong meant Vetry initially travelled without his wife of 27 years and their daughter, who remained in Maine. However, his dog Stella was able to join him and keep him company. He is now looking forward to his wife joining him this August.
When he is not busy managing the ultra-luxurious hotel, Vetry spends his time exploring Hong Kong’s diverse neighbourhoods across the Island and Kowloon.
“I often pick one neighbourhood and explore it for a whole day. So far, I love Tsim Sha Tsui the most because it is vibrant, offering many shopping and restaurant options.”

Leading Rosewood Hong Kong through challenging times
Earlier this year, Rosewood Hong Kong took home Hong Kong Living’s Award for Best Hotel for a Staycation, and it is clear to see why. With 413 luxurious guest rooms and nine restaurants and bars, the hotel offers a refined sanctuary in the heart of the city.
“We at Rosewood strive every day to create memorable experiences for our guests at our vertical estate by simply taking them away from the pressures of daily life during the pandemic and curating unique moments they cannot find elsewhere.”
What’s Next for Rosewood Hong Kong
Looking ahead, the hotel will launch the Rosewood Explorers Club dedicated to younger guests, alongside a six-week summer camp for children and a new restaurant planned to open this November.
“This restaurant will be a casual and authentic Italian concept located next to the Avenue of Stars,” he says. “I wish I could tell you more, but you will have to wait for further details in the coming months.”
