As Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group, Kempinski is celebrated worldwide for refined service and exceptional dining, and the Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is no exception. Located at the prominent intersection of Stamford Road and North Bridge Road, this elegant heritage property seamlessly combines the historic Capitol Building and Stamford House. Since opening in 2018, the hotel has established itself as one of the most distinctive luxury stays in Singapore’s Civic and Cultural District.
The Kempinski welcome: Ladies in Red
Our family adventure began the moment we stepped out of the car, greeted by Kempinski’s delightful Ladies in Red—dedicated staff members known for their exceptional hospitality and knowledge of the local area. As we settled in, we enjoyed refreshing glasses of chilled bubbles, while our four-year-old daughter was thrilled to receive the hotel’s “Ambassador” Leo the Lion, a charming stuffed toy that made her feel right at home.

A heritage design rooted in Singapore
Meticulously restored by renowned architect Richard Meier, the hotel harmonises neoclassical and Venetian Renaissance styles, celebrating the colonial art deco aesthetic of the early 1900s while incorporating modern touches. Unique design elements inspired by Singapore’s heritage, including nods to the beloved Merlion, can be found throughout the hotel, enriching the guest experience with a sense of place,
Our guest room was a serene escape with ample space to unwind. The luxurious bathroom featured a deep-soaking bathtub complete with a TV, allowing our daughter to enjoy her favourite cartoons while taking a long, relaxing soak. Thoughtful design details included complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and daily replenished premium offerings, such as Bacha Coffee.

Breakfast at 15 Stamford
Breakfast at the hotel’s signature restaurant, 15 Stamford, is a delightful semi-buffet experience with an impressive array of local and international dishes. We particularly enjoyed the vibrant selection of local favourites, including fragrant Nasi Lemak and perfectly cooked eggs, alongside the Bircher Muesli—a nod to Kempinski’s Swiss roots, created by Dr. Bircher-Benner to promote health. Adding a touch of luxury, guests can sip on sparkling wine, complemented by freshly squeezed juices and wellness shots that change daily. A live cooking station offers freshly made pancakes and waffles.
For dinner, the menu celebrates “Where the Land Meets the Sea,” featuring the chef’s signature dishes like Braised Wagyu Beef Cheeks and Corn-Fed Chicken Breast. The ‘Kids Dine Free’ offer enhances the family-friendly experience, allowing children to choose a dish from the kids’ menu along with a complimentary scoop of ice cream.

The Bar at 15 Stamford
For a refined drinking experience, head next door to The Bar at 15 Stamford, where guests are immersed in a tapestry of stories spun by passionate bartenders. The bar’s rich heritage is reflected in its surroundings—once home to The Green Circle library in the 1930s, a haven for dreamers that rivals today’s enchanting atmosphere. With 160 rum brands on offer, the bar’s deep-rooted connection to this spirited beverage echoes the maritime history of the site, previously a sailors’ boarding house. This legacy is embodied in the story behind the hotel’s signature cocktail, Plantation 1840, inspired by Joseph Balestier, Singapore’s first U.S. Consul, who once distilled rum from his expansive sugarcane plantation. A captivating bell-ringing ceremony takes place daily at 8pm, bringing Singapore’s early history to life and the newly refreshed cocktail menu, The Lost Highway, offers a flavorful journey along the Pan-American Highway, with each cocktail inspired by distinct regions.

The spa and Singapore’s only saltwater pool
The spa menu offers a variety of therapies, ranging from deeply relaxing Hot Stone Massages to invigorating Deep Tissue Muscle Relief treatments. I chose the hotel’s signature Singapore Massage, which beautifully weaves together techniques from Chinese, Malay, and Indian traditions— one of the most rejuvenating experiences of the year. Guests can also indulge in a soak in the hotel’s outdoor saltwater pool, the only one of its kind in the city.
Vintage Vespa sidecar experience
Part of the vibrant Capitol Singapore lifestyle complex, The Capitol Kempinski offers easy access to a treasure trove of attractions. An underpass conveniently connects guests to the City Hall MRT station, making it easy to explore iconic sites like the Singapore River and Marina Bay. With the Capitol Theatre and a chic lifestyle mall right next door, there was never a shortage of things to see and do.

One of the standout moments of our stay was the extraordinary vintage Vespa sidecar experience arranged by the hotel in partnership with Singapore Sidecars. Cruising through the lively streets of Singapore in a charming vintage sidecar, we were captivated by the vibrant street art of Arab Street and the exhilarating thrill of zipping along sections of the Formula One track. Passing iconic landmarks like Marina Bay Sands and Raffles Singapore transformed our ride into a breathtaking adventure that will be forever etched in our memories. This experience ranks among the most exhilarating urban explorations I’ve ever had.
