Two years after its debut, Mondrian Hong Kong has settled into its stride. We check in to see how this art-led hotel is shaping the city\u2019s creative stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mondrian Hong Kong is not a hotel you retreat from the city in. It is one that fully immerses you in it. Days begin high above Victoria Harbour, evenings move from exhibitions to dinner and drinks, and Hong Kong\u2019s rhythm stays with you throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rising 40 storeys above Tsim Sha Tsui, Mondrian Hong Kong is unapologetically urban. It is confident, cultured and quietly playful, drawing in creative types who like their luxury with a side of spectacular views. Over three nights in late November, staying as a family of three, it revealed itself to be far warmer and more generous than its cool exterior might suggest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Vertical Take on the City<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first thing that strikes you is the sense of height. From the lobby upwards, Mondrian feels vertical in the most cinematic way. Elevators lift you swiftly above the noise, depositing you into spaces that feel calm and unexpectedly expansive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our room, a Premier Harbour category, immediately challenged the usual Hong Kong assumptions about space. High ceilings, oversized windows and clever design gave it an airy, almost loft-like feel. With three people, including a five-year-old, this mattered. There was plenty of room to move, to unpack properly, to work, relax and sleep without feeling perched on top of one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The views, though, are the real headline. Victoria Harbour unfurls below in constant motion. Ferries cut across the water. Light shifts across the skyline from morning haze to neon dusk. After dark, a confidence emerges that could belong nowhere else but Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design, by Amsterdam-based Karin Krautgartner, is bold and colourful. The furniture feels sculptural but practical. This is a hotel that understands how people actually live in a room, not just how it photographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakfast Above the Harbour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mornings begin on the 38th floor at Avoca, where breakfast is served with a panoramic view that is hard to beat. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the harbour, and early light spills across the room, making even a weekday breakfast feel indulgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A semi-buffet offers fresh fruit, pastries and cold options, while hot dishes are ordered \u00e0 la carte. Nothing sits tired under heat lamps. Everything arrives fresh, plated and thoughtfully prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ordering \u00e0 la carte became a small daily pleasure. Eggs cooked to request, great coffee, and nourishing dishes. For a hotel that leans heavily into nightlife and culture, breakfast is refreshingly calm and well judged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dining With Conviction at Carna<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An elevator tucked discreetly within Avoca whisks guests higher still to Carna by Dario Cecchini on the 39th floor, where meat-led Tuscan cooking is paired with Joyce Wang\u2019s dramatic interiors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weekend brunch begins with an aperitif before you even reach the table, accompanied by a board of homemade charcuterie. Once seated, the pace is unhurried. Staff explain the different cuts with enthusiasm rather than intimidation, while the nose-to-tail ethos runs through the meal, from beef tartare and house-made focaccia to generous sharing plates from the charcoal grill. A spritz trolley that circulates the room quickly becomes a highlight for us. But drinks aside, this is generous Tuscan cooking, grounded in respect for the animal and a clear commitment to sustainability, delivered with warmth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festive menus are on the horizon and, since early December, this has been the brunch I keep recommending. Excellent views, a genuinely welcoming team and a room so elegantly comfortable that it is hard to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art Beyond the Walls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What truly sets Mondrian Hong Kong apart is its commitment to art as something lived, not merely displayed. Directly opposite the hotel entrance sits The Corner Shop, a street-level exhibition space that acts as a cultural extension of the hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During our stay, a guided tour offered insight into the current exhibition, \u201cEphememo-ries: Till Next Time\u201d, a participatory digital art project linked to the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale. Visitors are invited to contribute personal memories, which are then transformed into AI-generated artworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous exhibitions have included textile-based sustainability projects, sculptural installations and live performances, reinforcing the sense that Mondrian is invested in the city\u2019s creative life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Hotel With a Sense of Place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite its art-world credentials and fashion-forward crowd, Mondrian Hong Kong is notably friendly. The hotel team strikes that elusive balance between polished and personable, with requests handled quickly and without fuss. Travelling with a child never felt like an inconvenience, which is no small thing in a hotel that attracts such a design-conscious audience. On our second-to-last night, we discovered the breadth of complimentary items available through guest services and promptly ordered a Nintendo Switch (there is also a PlayStation 5), along with Jenga, Monopoly and, somewhat optimistically at 9pm, a xylophone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a trendiness here, certainly, but it feels lived-in and sociable. Avoca transitions seamlessly from breakfast space to rooftop bar, hosting DJs, cocktails and collaborations without ever feeling like it is trying too hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Verdict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mondrian Hong Kong is not for those seeking heritage nostalgia. It is for travellers who want to feel the city, not escape it. For art lovers, design enthusiasts and culturally curious families alike, it offers a compelling, contemporary way to stay in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a hotel with views that demand attention, rooms that give you space to breathe, food that has something to say, and art that invites participation. Most importantly, it feels connected to the city around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where the art crowd stays. And where everyone else might want to check in too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
