From dream acceptances to defining passions, these students offer a candid look at how their academic journeys have been shaped by curiosity, creativity, and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What was your first reaction when you received a university offer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The moment of acceptance was unforgettable for each student\u2014equal parts joy, shock, and relief. \u201cI was surprised I got in,\u201d recalls Elizabeth Wong, who had applied to her dream school at the last minute, not expecting much. For Leo Fung, the offer brought a wave of happiness after months of uncertainty. \u201cIt felt both exciting and overwhelming\u2014I got mine in March and just remember feeling so relieved,\u201d he shares. Elizabeth admits she underestimated the process. \u201cPeople say you can just apply through Common App, but there were so many unexpected steps, especially with financial aid. It turned out to be much more complicated than I thought.\u201d Ankul echoes this, describing the experience as confusing and overwhelming. \u201cI was really happy to have resources like Maia Learning, and I had several one-on-one meetings with my counsellor, which helped make sense of it all\u2014especially when juggling different schools\u2019 requirements.\u201d Dylan focused on target schools based on his chosen major, Cognitive Science. \u201cI prioritised schools with strong programmes in my field and focused on finding a community that felt like AIS\u2014close-knit and collaborative.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How did your High School Counsellor help you through the process?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All four students spoke highly of the pivotal role their counsellor played in navigating the university process. \u201cShe helped me so much\u2014from submitting financial aid and health forms to shaping my original list of schools,\u201d says Elizabeth. Leo credits his counsellor with helping him cut through the ambiguity. \u201cUniversity websites can be really unclear, especially when it comes to what\u2019s required for different majors. I didn\u2019t even know where I wanted to go at first, but she helped me reflect on what I want for my future.\u201d Dylan adds that responsiveness was key. \u201cShe helped me set realistic goals and guided me through every logistical step. Elizabeth is heading to <strong>Pratt Institute<\/strong> to study Communications Design with an emphasis on Illustration. \u201cI\u2019d love to become a concept artist, maybe for a video game company\u2014games have always been a big part of my life.\u201d Ankul plans to pursue <strong>Computer Science<\/strong>, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. \u201cBoth AP Comp Sci courses gave me a solid foundation, and I love that coding allows for both logic and creativity.\u201d Leo is excited to study <strong>Economics<\/strong>, a subject that came alive through AIS\u2019s classes in macro and microeconomics. \u201cWhat really helped was applying that theory to real-world scenarios in class projects\u2014I realised this is what I want to keep doing.\u201d For Dylan, <strong>Cognitive Science<\/strong> offers a way to explore the questions he\u2019s always been drawn to. \u201cI\u2019m fascinated by how people think, how they process the world. My university offers great opportunities for research in cognitive processes, which I can\u2019t wait to dive into.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What has drawn you to the majors you\u2019ve selected?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These students aren\u2019t just choosing majors\u2014they\u2019re following callings shaped by years of self-discovery. For Elizabeth, art is more than a hobby; it\u2019s a constant. \u201cIt\u2019s my strongest skill, and the one thing I\u2019ve always returned to. I want to keep developing it.\u201d Dylan\u2019s academic focus crystallised during AP Psychology. \u201cThat class really shifted things for me. The units on cognitive processing and how the brain codes information were fascinating. Elizabeth points to a mix of creative and analytical subjects. \u201cAP Seminar sharpened my presentation skills, and AP Art helped with my portfolio. AP English Language taught me how to analyse sources\u2014though AP Stats? Honestly, not my favourite.\u201d Ankul credits the two AP English courses with improving his argument-building skills. \u201cIt\u2019s helped me so much, not just in writing applications but in everyday thinking.\u201d Leo agrees: \u201cThe English APs helped me understand how to form and evaluate arguments. AP Research gave me the chance to go deep into a topic and make it my own.\u201d Dylan\u2019s AP Research project, which focused on psychology, gave him a leg up. \u201cI had to collect data and learn new tools and stats software. It was a real hands-on experience that not everyone gets before university.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anything else you\u2019d like to share?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s one name that comes up again and again: Mrs. Schnatterbeck. \u201cI just want to thank her,\u201d says Elizabeth. \u201cShe was always available for group sessions and individual help, and she set internal deadlines that really kept us on track.\u201d Ankul reflects on another highlight: the school\u2019s <strong>Techsperts programme<\/strong>, which gave him a chance to showcase his strengths in technology and innovation. \u201cIt allowed me to support both teachers and classmates with new tools, and show colleges how I can make a real impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a blend of ambition, talent and community support, these four students exemplify the spirit of AIS. Their journeys remind us that university isn\u2019t just a destination\u2014it\u2019s a launchpad.
