Hop Cheong Pens & Lighters Co.<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hop Cheong is ground zero for fountain pen hunters. Self-proclaimed as the world’s smallest but mightiest pen shop, this 177-square foot shop has been selling high quality pens since 1977. Squeeze inside (you may have to wait) and browse the hundreds of pens on display in this loved shop. Helpful staff \u2013 John and Addy \u2013 are happy to take time and let you try out any that catch your eye. They specialise in Montblanc, Cartier, and other top European brands. A brand new Montblanc 149 retails for around $4,300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raymond Chung Antique Watch and Pen Store<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While mostly a vintage watch shop, Raymond also sells vintage fountain pens and will turn his (extremely skilled) hand to fountain pen repair. Well worth a visit, Raymond has great English and a deep knowledge of vintage pens. His shop is always busy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just around the corner from Hop Cheong is Winner Pen Collection, Hong Kong’s biggest speciality fountain pen shop. This 300-square foot shop has a wide variety of brands on display including Montblanc,  Aurora, Sailor, Pilot, Namiki, Dupont, Kaweco, Lamy and Pelikan. The pens are well displayed in cases. There are quite a few brand new collectors’ items but it doesn’t sell vintage pens and the management don’t really encourage idlers who want to spend half an hour “trying out” pens. English is spoken, grudgingly. But the prices are good. A Montblanc 149 retails for $4,200. And the range is awesome. Winner also has a lot of reasonably priced modern pens such as Lamy and Kaweco priced between $500 and $1,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sham Shui Po Second Hand Pen Shop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mr Poon has been repairing pens at his tiny Sham Shiui Po street shop for more than 30 years. He will fix any pen and is well worth a visit just to see an old professional in action. His English is not great, but if you love pens you will find a way to communicate. Mr Poon has boxes of second hand pens stashed all over the place with prices set to sell. His shop in Pei Ho Street is in the heart of the wholesale garment market, so always a fun place to visit. Open from noon to 7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany’s best value pen brand (and the fountain pen brand most used by Hong Kong Living staff) opened a flagship store in 2017. It’s a great place to try and buy all versions of these lovely minimalist pens, from wooden ones for kids ($170) to a basic Safari ($190) plus top range and limited edition pens. Plus, the nice guys in the shop will engrave your purchases for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
